Meet Hafde Tannery, our newest partner in sustainability

We are so excited to introduce the 100% Vegetable-Tanned Collection, the beginning of our transition to using this far more sustainable method of producing leather. This shift centers around our new partner, Hafde Tannery, an innovative operation located on the outskirts of Addis Ababa.  We had the chance to visit Hafde with Daniel this year to meet their team, see the facilities, and hear about their mission in person. Meeting our partners face-to-face is an incredibly important step in the vetting process and allows us to create a meaningful relationship with the people who are doing work so integral to our business.  And now a bit about them: the Hafde Tannery is a family-run business managed by three brothers. Our tour guide and one...

Talking ENAT Sustainability with EcoPrenelles

Here at ENAT, we believe that you can't divorce fair relationships with people from caring for the environment. We've made it fairly clear that we don't like waste (Oddballs, unite!) and now, with the launch of the wildly popular Everyday Tote in 100% Vegetable-Tanned Leather, we're even further down this path.  That's why we were so excited and honored to be part of the new thang EcoPrenelles is building which, in their words, is "a platform to share the stories of bold women pioneering as thought-leaders, eco-preneurs and trailblazers in the world of environmental sustainability." We love that more of these stories are being told and can't wait to read the stories of other women dedicated to making the world...

INTRODUCING 100% Vegetable-Tanned Leather

At ENAT we're committed to using sustainable materials wherever possible. This winter we're starting our transition to 100% vegetable tanned leather by introducing one of our most popular styles, the Everyday Tote, in this new, more sustainable material. We'll also be introducing a slimmed down version of our tote.  As a conscious company we're out to be better, always. This move towards a more eco- and people-friendly material is just one of the new initiatives we're focusing on now and in the new year. Exciting, right? Sign up to know when our vegetable-tanned styles become available this month.  _____ What's the difference, why vegetable tanned? Vegetable-tanned leather uses natural vegetable extracts, things like roots and bark, to turn  hide into leather. This...

Moving Pictures: The Oddball Video

We release the Oddball Collection tomorrow, November 26th, just in time for Shop for Good Sunday and we couldn't be more excited.  One of our biggest values is sustainability, which is why these perfectly imperfect bags have made it to you. We want to make sure every last item, hand cut and stitched by our partners in Ethiopia, gets to be worn. Stay tuned! We'll be letting you know when the Oddballs are available tomorrow morning. _____________ What exactly is an Oddball? Since each ENAT bag is hand cut and stitched by our partners in Ethiopia, not every item turns out perfect. Bags from the Oddball collection have a quirk of some sort: maybe you can see the hand of...

Talking Oddballs with Emily from A Day Pack

We've worked with the kids from A Day Pack before and so when Emily floated the idea of doing a second little something AND it coincided with the launch of the ENAT Oddball Collection, we absolutely had to say yes.  Emily and Nicholas, the pair behind the blog, are on a conscious + ethical + slow living journey. They freely admit to being new to this stuff (most of us are!) and reel readers in with a wonderful authenticity and gorgeous images to boot.  We absolutely love how Emily re-packaged the Oddball message, explaining our mission as it relates to this collection and had to share: " They may have a few bumps, scuffs, or a dot here and there,...
